I've lucked out and found a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The dealer has sent me pictures, and while they're not very good, as you can see, it almost doesn't matter: I've seen enough. The car looks as advertised.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Look at the condition of this leather driver's seat. It's barely been used, with only the slightest creases present.
So not much to see here, really. It's as minty fresh as they come.
Except the tires. As far as I can tell, the 2008 TL (non-Type S) came with Michelin Pilots, which is what this car seems to be wearing. So it's running 7-8 year old rubber. I'd be very concerned about dry rot, even if they did pass safety.
Dealer wants $17,888 for this car. I think I'll pay that only if they're willing to put on new tires. Otherwise, I'll offer him $17. What say you, Oppo?
I'll probably get them to put on winter tires, since Winter is Coming, then use my tax refund in the spring to get some Type S wheels and summer rubber.

Check the date codes on the tires, a lot of people (the one person I know that has a TL) just put replacement tires of the same model as original equipment back on.

Yep, but consider the car's mileage: just under 48,000, or about, what, a little over half-way through the lifespan of a good all-seasons like Pilots. I'd say its about 50/50 chance they're original or replacements. As you say, the date code (and the service records) will tell.
If they're relatively new then I'm golden. I'll ride them out until winter, then swap. Gives me time to save.

Why not manual? The manual option on these cars with a 6 speed with a really nice sporty feel to it.
